To help you understand why I want to be a tutor, you need to know a little history about me. When I was young, I was not a fan of school. I thought it was boring and hard to understand, especially science of any kind. As I went through middle school, my grades began to drop. One evening, my dad sat down with me and had me read my Meteorology book out loud. He would stop me nearly every line and ask if I understood what I read. When I didn't (which was often), he would take the time to explain it to me and help me understand how the new information fit into the previous section. Through his patience and help, I was able to understand and remember the material. He didn't just teach me a subject, he taught me how to learn. Over time, I began to love the subjects I always thought I would hate (aka, most sciences and history). I finished my AS at 18, then spent 2 years traveling and studying abroad. Now, I am a pre-med student, and finishing my BS in Chemistry. If it weren't for someone being willing to sit down and help me when I struggled, I would not be where I am today. I want to be that someone for a student who may need a bit of help unlocking potential and discovering new passions.
